Self Determination Program

At TheraPlay LA, we work with families participating in California’s Self-Determination Program (SDP) to provide individualized support that helps children participate more fully in life at home and in their communities.

Services focus on practical skills children can use in everyday situations, communicating their needs, managing transitions, participating in family routines, connecting with others, navigating community environments, and becoming more independent in the community setting.

Rather than working on skills in isolation, we consider how each child functions across the places and activities that matter to them and their family. Support may address adaptive skills, executive functioning, social participation, daily routines, and engagement in meaningful community activities.

Whether your family is new to SDP or looking for a provider whose services align with your child’s goals, our team can help you understand our process and provide the documentation needed to include TheraPlay LA in your child’s spending plan.

What is the Self-Determination Program(SDP)?

The Self-Determination Program is a voluntary option available to eligible California Regional Center participants. It gives individuals and families greater choice, flexibility, and responsibility in selecting services and supports that promote independence, community participation, and progress toward the goals in the participant’s Individual Program Plan (IPP).

Participants use an individual budget to purchase eligible services and supports identified in a certified spending plan. This allows families to choose providers that align with the participant’s needs, priorities, and vision for a meaningful life in the community.

TheraPlay LA may be selected as an SDP service provider when our services support the participant’s IPP goals and are included in the certified spending plan. Support is individualized and may focus on helping a child participate in social experiences, community programs, daily responsibilities, and other meaningful parts of everyday life.

Our goal is to help each child build the confidence and functional skills needed to connect with others, access their community, and participate more independently in the experiences that matter to them.

ACE Financial Management Services for SDP Families

TheraPlay LA currently accepts Self-Determination Program (SDP) funding exclusively through ACE FMS (Financial Management Services).

Families who would like to use SDP funding for services at our clinic must have ACE established as their Financial Management Service provider prior to beginning services. At this time, we are unable to process SDP payments through other FMS providers.

If you are new to the Self-Determination Program or need assistance setting up ACE for therapy services, our team is happy to help guide you through the process and provide any documentation needed for your Regional Center team or service coordinator.

We aim to make the SDP process feel supportive, clear, and manageable so families can focus on accessing the care their child needs most.
